When people ask what makes 3Roots feel like a community, Jess is one of the first people who comes to mind.
As the group fitness manager at the 3Roots community gym, Jess thoughtfully curates the class schedule, recruits instructors, and teaches many of the yoga, Pilates, and strength classes that bring neighbors together week after week. She listens to the community and helps shape a fitness program that reflects what residents are looking for.
For many neighbors, she’s more than an instructor—she’s part of the rhythm of daily life and a familiar face that makes showing up for yourself a little easier.
When I first moved to San Diego, Jess was one of the first people to welcome me into the community. I still remember attending one of her classes and how naturally she reached out to introduce herself. That small act of kindness helped me find my footing in a brand-new city.
Now, every time I see Jess at the gym, it’s a quiet reminder that I’m taking care of myself.
Beyond 3Roots, Jess is the founder of Balance & Strive, where she blends movement, energetic healing, and holistic coaching to help people feel stronger, more grounded, and more connected to themselves. Through private Pilates, yoga, strength training, and personalized wellness coaching, she creates space for people to reconnect with both their bodies and their lives.

Fun Facts About Jess
Favorite local spot in San Diego?
I love walking along La Jolla Shores Beach most weeks—it’s my favorite way to reset and enjoy the coastline. Afterwards, I’ll often grab a coffee at Blue Whale Coffee in La Jolla Village.
Go-to comfort food?
Fish and chips from Shakespeare Pub & Grille always reminds me of the pub food I grew up with in the UK. At home, I love making vegan cottage pie or simple homemade chips with a plant-based burger.
Morning ritual you can’t skip?
My mornings start with a cold wash, brushing my teeth, and 10 minutes of meditation while using my LED face mask. I’ll then sip lemon and ginger tea and take creatine before starting the day.
Book, podcast, or show you’re currently obsessed with?
I’m currently reading Brimstone by my friend Callie Hart. For podcasts and TV, I’ve been loving SmartLess, Good Hang with Amy Poehler, On Purpose with Jay Shetty, and the latest season of Bridgerton.
