Halfway Doesn’t Mean Behind

July has a way of sneaking up on us.

One minute we’re setting intentions for the new year. The next, we’re looking at the calendar wondering how we’re already halfway through.

For many of us, the midpoint of the year comes with an uninvited guest: the feeling that we should be further along than we are.

It’s easy to look at the gap between where you thought you’d be and where you are today and assume you’ve fallen behind…

But What If You’re Not Behind?

What if the first half of the year wasn’t meant to be about checking boxes, but about learning what matters, adapting to change, and growing in ways that don’t fit neatly on a list?

Some of the most meaningful progress is difficult to quantify. It’s:

  • The difficult conversation you finally had.
  • The habit you’re slowly building.
  • The confidence you’re gaining.
  • The season you’re surviving.
  • The courage it took to begin again.

A Different Way to Measure Progress

As we head into the second half of the year, perhaps the goal is to simply move forward with greater clarity than you had six months ago.

Instead of asking, “Am I where I thought I’d be?”

Try asking:

  • What has this year taught me so far?
  • What deserves more of my attention in the months ahead?
  • Where have I grown, even if the progress isn’t obvious?
  • What would make the rest of the year feel meaningful—not just productive?

A Dose of Soom to Remember

Halfway through the year doesn’t mean you’re behind.

It simply means there’s still more of the story to write.
